Master the Basics: Your First Salsa Steps
Learning to dance salsa is an incredible journey full of rhythm, energy, and community. If you are completely new to Cuban style salsa, the very first thing to focus on is your timing and footwork.
Getting the foundational steps down is what gives you the confidence to move freely on the dance floor and smoothly connect with a partner.
Why Timing is Everything
- The Salsa Beat: Salsa music is counted in 8 beats, but we only take 6 steps.
- The Pause: Learning where to pause (on beats 4 and 8) is the secret to true Cuban rhythm.
- Muscle Memory: Practising your basic steps slowly builds the muscle memory you need for quicker routines later on.
