Challenge yourself to take the first step and dance
Sensational Saturday with Maykel Fonts
Julia and Steve spent Saturday in Heywood, Greater Manchester learning salsa, rumba (that's Cuban rumba, not ballroom) and Afro-Cuban styling from one of the best dancers in the World!
Felipe Reyes from Salsa Cabana organised for Maykel Fonts to come over from his base in Italy to provide the teaching.
Maykel is originally from Cuba (of course) and has worked as a choreographer on major films and for international bands and artistes. We also learn that he writes music and plays percussion. He certainly is multi-talented.
As you might expect the teaching is first class and some of the movements are beyond most of the class but it's a great afternoon that passes very quickly and we head off for showers and to get ready for the evening party.
It's also a great party with Gillian 'Salsa Fix' and Javier La Rosa providing the music, which is all good. Maykel gives a jaw-dropping performance that has the crowd on their feet and is among the best I have ever seen.
Only problem is, at my age a full day dancing followed by a party until 2am is maybe a bit too much but on this occasion, well worth it.
Thank you Maykel and Felipe
